One-Time Wheel

If you have never worked with clay and want to give it a spin, this is the perfect class for you. In this class, we will cover basic studio safety, how to weigh and wedge clay, and the steps for creating your first piece on the wheel. Sign up with your friends for even more fun!

In this 2.5 hour course, you will be guided through all the steps to create your own piece on the pottery wheel. After an instructor-led demo, you’ll have plenty of time to practice and try on your own. Trimming and glazing requires the clay to be at a different stage so this class will concentrate on throwing. Clay and tools will be provided, just bring your enthusiasm… and maybe a towel.

If you want to keep your creation, the studio can trim and glaze your pieces for a small fee. Pieces will be ready for pick up in 3–4 weeks.

Topics: Studio safety tour. Work with ~1lb of clay. Stages of clay, Wedging and weighing clay. Principles of centering, opening, pulling, and shaping. Explain next stages of clay (trimming and glazing) to bring a piece to completion. Finally, we will go over cleaning and clean up safety.

One-Time Hand-Building

If you have never worked with clay and want to give it a spin, this is the perfect class for you. In this class, we will cover basic studio safety, how to weigh and wedge clay, and the steps for creating your first piece using various hand-building methods. Sign up with your friends for even more fun!

In this 2.5 hour course, you will be guided through all the steps to create your own piece on the using a various methods for working with clay. Projects might include working with the slab roller or extruder and using templates to create functional and decorative pieces. Clay and tools will be provided, just bring your enthusiasm… and maybe a towel.

If you want to keep your creation, the studio can glaze your pieces for a small fee. Pieces will be ready for pick up in 3–4 weeks.

Topics: Studio safety tour. Stages of clay, Wedging and weighing clay. Common hand-building methods such as pinch pot, slabs, and coils.  Finally, we will go over cleaning and clean up safety.
