Ceramics Instructor (Contract)

We are looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors to teach our one-time, 6-week beginner pottery classes as well as possible summer camps for kids 13-17. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques and capable of teaching various ages and skill levels.

Qualifications:

  • Proven knowledge of ceramics and studio operations, with portfolio of functional and/or sculptural work.
  • Have experience teaching ceramics (primarily wheel throwing) to different age groups.
  • Skilled in wheel throwing, hand-building, trimming, glazing and surface design.
  • Familiarity with studio operations (kilns loading unloading, slab roller, glazing techniques, extruder)
  • Able to lift 25lbs.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and teach ceramics process from beginning to end (wedging, wheel-throwing, hand-building, glazing, surface decoration).
  • Demonstrate proper use of tools, techniques, and safety procedures in the studio.
  • Provide individualized feedback and guidance to students at varying skill levels.
  • Load and unload kilns as needed, ensure class pieces are fired in a timely manner in accordance to class schedule.
  • Manage class flow, setup, and cleanup efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all students.

Studio Staff (Part-Time)

Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of ceramics and studio operations.
  • Able to lift 25lbs.

Responsibilities:

  • Answer general information to studio guests and members.
  • Able to conduct studio facilities tour and safety tour
  • Respond to emails
  • Have good knowledge of classes, memberships, and other studio events
  • Act as host for visitors, students, members and guests
  • Update website / studio management software as instructed
  • Making sure the studio environment is clean and safe for everyone.
  • Remind guests to follow studio guidelines and to clean
  • Assist instructors, technicians and managers as needed

Studio Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Skills:

  • General knowledge of ceramic art processes and techniques.
  • Skilled in wheel-throwing, hand-building, glazing, and firing.
  • Strong understanding of clay bodies, glaze chemistry, and studio-safe practices.
  • Oversees scheduling, class coordination, and kiln firing schedule.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots studio equipment (kilns, wheels, tools).
  • Manages bookings, memberships, and communicates with clients effectively.
  • Handles inventory, supply ordering, and cleanliness of the studio.
  • Manages class rosters, payments, and basic bookkeeping or POS systems.
  • Supports part-time staff, manages schedules, and fosters a collaborative environment.
  • Addresses issues professionally and ensures smooth daily operations.
  • Brings inspiration to the studio through personal practice and creative vision.
  • Keeps up with ceramic trends, materials, and innovative techniques.
  • Promotes classes and events via Instagram, email, or community platforms.
  • Helps build brand presence and attract new students.
