Bone Dry Greenware

All greenware must be 100% completely dry before drop-off. Because we work with pottery from many different makers, we aren’t able to monitor the drying stage of individual pieces. If a piece is still damp or leather hard when we inspect it, it will need additional drying time before it can be fired. Avoid tightly wrapping damp or recently finished pieces in plastic before drop-off, as this can trap moisture.

Know Your Clays and Glazes

You are responsible for knowing the clay body, glaze, and intended firing temperature of your pieces. We only fire commercial clay bodies: no wild clay, no paper clay, no plasticine or air dry clay, no glass and other foreign materials.  Using clay or glaze at the wrong temperature can cause melting, running, warping, kiln-shelf damage, or damage to the kiln. We cannot fire your pieces if you aren’t sure what clay or glaze you used.

Pack with Care

Please pack your pottery securely enough for transportation while keeping the packaging simple enough for our team to unpack safely. Newspaper, bubble wrap, and foam are all great options. Avoid excessive tape, plastic, or multiple layers of wrapping. Whenever possible, keep especially fragile details visible so our team knows to handle them with extra care.

Leave Your Mark

Every piece must be clearly signed, stamped, or otherwise marked. Artists sometimes create very similar work, and marking your pieces helps us make sure everything gets back to its rightful maker. Please also make sure the number of pieces listed on your firing form matches the number of pieces you drop off.

Glaze Firings Bottoms

All pieces that are glazed must have a clean bottom with ¼ inch clearance and completely free of glaze. Even small traces of glaze can melt onto a kiln shelf and cause your piece to stick, crack, or become damaged. Pieces requiring excessive glaze cleaning or special preparation may be charged an additional fee. The studio does not offer stilting services for pieces.

Our kilns are fired when we have enough compatible work to safely and efficiently fill them, which is pretty often. Our standard firing turnaround is up to 3 weeks, depending on firing temperature, kiln availability, and the amount of work currently waiting to be fired. Rush firing may occasionally be available for an additional fee. Please contact the studio before drop-off to ask about availability.

We will contact you when your pottery is ready. Please pick up pieces within 14 days of notification. After 14 days, a $5 per week storage feel may be charged. Pieces that remain at the studio for more than 60 days after notification may be considered abandoned and may be discarded or donated at the studio’s discretion.

Clay All Day is not responsible for pieces damaged that may occur during the firing process. Any damage to kilns or shelves caused by customer work and the costs involved in repair of kilns or replacement of shelves will be charged to the customer.  It is your responsibility to ensure all pieces are ready for firing to reduce the chances of the piece damaging or exploding in the kiln. Pieces must be completely dry and ready for firing. Your work will be fired alongside others’, and you accept the risk of their pieces possibly damaging yours. Remove all interior paper or other material before drop-off. We will not fire paper clay, glass, or non-clay materials Firing defector undesired results may be caused by poor construction, dampness, air bubbles, or improper application of glaze. We reserve the right to refuse services at our discretion.
